Beginner foraging walks in the Surrey Hills

Learn to identify wild edible plants safely with a qualified ethnobotanist

Join beginner-friendly foraging course in Surrey Hills

Curious about wild food but not sure where to start? You might be surprised how much is growing on your doorstep - common plants you pass every day that you've simply never noticed.

Join me for a gentle foraging walk that uses all your senses. By the time we've left the car park, you'll already be seeing the world differently.

"What a great antidote to the news...get outside and eat some leaves!"

What you'll experience on a beginners foraging walk

These walks will feed your curiosity and kindle a genuine relationship with wild plants.

We'll use all our senses to identify fascinating edible plants, discuss safe foraging practices, and explore the best ways to reconnect with the wild around us.

On a foraging walk, you'll learn how to:

  • Recognise common edible wild plants

  • Avoid poisonous lookalikes

  • Forage ethically and sustainably

  • Use seasonal wild ingredients at home

By the end of the foraging walk, you'll leave:

  • Inspired and confident

  • With new eyes for the plants around you

  • Full of ideas for using wild ingredients

  • Reconnected with nature

All walks include wild food tasters made with seasonal foraged ingredients.

Please note that these aren't mushroom or herbal medicine walks.

"I learned so much before we even left the car park." Andrea Rollings, Godalming foraging walk

"Just two hours walking by the river has helped my confidence no end. This has really reignited my passion for foraging which had been soured by anxiety in recent years." Hannah Miller, Godalming foraging walk

"A completely new world has been uncovered for me and every question, no matter how basic, was answered with excitement. Can't wait to use my new knowledge and sign up for my next experience." Jhenn S, Godalming riverside foraging walk

"I was blown away at being taught how to both pick and eat a stinging nettle without being stung. Common plants that I've often thought of as weeds, I've now been snacking on as I listened about their many health benefits. Country walks will now be seen in a whole new light." Louise Clark, Birtley foraging walk

"If you're curious about foraging there's no better place to start than here. Elspeth's knowledge and enthusiasm made this such an enjoyable and educative experience. Plus you get to taste the foods she's made from foraging." Ruth Stone, Rosamund Community Garden foraging walk

Upcoming Foraging Walks in Surrey

"I didn't think about work once on Saturday. By the end of the day it felt like I'd had a holiday. Part of that is the natural calming effect of engaging with the outdoors, but the lion's share has to go to you for the way you delivered the day and the obvious joy you have for what you do." Miles Hawkins, Green Angels foraging course

"Elspeth is a very fun and knowledgeable foraging teacher. We had a fab Saturday morning with her, definitely recommend this session to anyone who is interested in getting back to nature a bit in today's consumer-crazy world." Andrea Rollings

"Elspeth communicates her love and knowledge of plants really well and we discovered a beautiful corner of the Surrey Hills. We will come back!" Sofia Laranjinha

"Great event, Elspeth is so lovely and super passionate about working with nature. I can't recommend highly enough." Holly Didyk, Spring Wild Garlic & Greens Forage

"It is always a joy to listen to someone speak with passion and Elspeth's infectious enthusiasm for foraging was no exception. The joy, excitement, warmth and good humour with which she shared her evidently deep knowledge made for an engrossing and thoroughly enjoyable day." Miles Hawkins, Green Angels foraging course
